In March 2023, Steel Line Ltd was proudly chosen by George King Architects to bring their imagination to life of the Sheffield Covid Memorial. The artwork was made from bright / mirror polished S304 stainless steel tubes all individual bent to numerous curves in order to make the shape of a willow tree. This was from the imagination and design of George King which we were happy to make his vision become a reality.
The memorial statue is situated in the Sheffield City Centre, next to the City Hall where it sits alongside other proud Sheffield monuments such as the Women of Steel memorial.
It is in remembrance to those who sadly passed away due to the effects of the Covid-19 virus as well as honouring the unsung efforts of workers during the pandemic.
The reason for the willow tree structure is that it has a strong trunk, which symbolises how people worked together to create the strength needed at such a difficult time.
Inside the sculpture are engraved steel plates which hold words from post cards collected during the pandemic which hold great significance to those affected during this period.
A symbol of grief but also a symbol of strength, growth and rebirth.’
